leaning into yourself
Overview
Leaning Into Yourself offers space for you to connect to your chest area. The course below allows you to stop and take time to move and lean in to what your chest is holding and creates space to open your heart. Follow each step in your own time and reflect on what stories come up for you.
- step1: open your heart space through movement and yoga style poses that lean into the chest area.
- step 2: find connection and breath to your chest through a guided meditation.
- step 3: reflect on what you noticed and take time to explore what could be holding you back.
- step 4: find ways of moving each day to keep your heart open and your chest moving forward.
step 1:
opening your heart
Let’s begin with setting up your space. This movement will focus on opening your heart space. What opens your heart? Perhaps light a candle, make the space warm, remove distractions, slip into comfortable clothes and settle in.
Here is a playlist (created on Spotify) that you can use alongside the below video or perhaps take time after the video to explore your own movement with the songs prepared on the playlist. This session is for your body so be guided by what you need and allow your focus to be curious on what thoughts/sensations come up.
Step 2:
Connect to your chest
What did you notice when you took time to be present with your heart and chest? What emotions came up? Could you lean in?
Find a comfortable place to sit or lay down. This guided meditation will talk you through a process to connect with your chest by connection of your hands to this area. Take time to be guided by your body and notice what comes up.
Be mindful not to judge but to be curious. Go gently.
step 3: Reflect
Take time to reflect. This can be in whatever way suits you. I have created a number of questions to guide your reflection.
I invite you to explore the questions and notice your body response and what thoughts/memories come up.
Grab a drink, get comfortable and take time to journal, draw or speak to someone about what comes up for you when you explore the questions. Click here to access the questions
When you have taken time to reflect, come back to the chest and place your hands on the area that holds the most sensations, tension or pain. Breath in as deep as you can and allow the process of reflection to settle, bringing yourself back to the here and now. Connecting to your surroundings with all of your senses.
Step 4:
integrate
Take time to follow the video and explore ways you can integrate what you have explored during this course. Take time to pause the video, take notes and reflect on the connection you have made to your chest and heart space.
When you have finished the video allow space to set reminders and lean in one more time to check how you are feeling right now. Can you feel space and joy? Are you able to soften?
